This page presents a summary view of the service area of the Forest Park Mutual Water Company, including areas affected by a significant mudslide and avalanche subsequent to the El Dorado fire.
The mudslide occurred on September 12, 2022, and the avalanche on March 9, 2023.
As of June 28, 2023, one wellhead remains buried below 20' of avalanche debris, and important areas of our access roads are blocked by avalanche debris.
The avalanche debris field is located directly to the west of our east well and tank site, starting and spilling out of Prospect Creek.
The photos below show different perspectives of this area:
Some photos were taken before the September 12 mudslide (i.e., as the area was for years before the El Dorado fire).
Some photos were taken after the mudslide, but before the avalanche. And others taken after the avalanche - both immediately after and as recent as June 27, 2023.
The truck in the background is parked on the dirt road. The mudslide resulted in about 8' of mud on both sides of Prospect creek, and the ensuing water flow expanded Prospect Creek to about 15' wide and 8' deep (below original road surface) at this location.
Same area as previous photo, but from the west side.
The location where the truck in this photos is parked was directly in the path of the subsequent avalanche. The avalanche debris field was about 50' deep at this location.
As of June 28, 2023 this portion of the dirt road is still covered in about 20' deep of debris (trees, mud, rocks, and still some snow).
This photo was taken in May 2023. The truck in this photo is parked to the west about 150 feet from the location where it was parked in the previous photo, but months later and following the avalanche. The debris field covering the dirt road is what remained after the snow melted.
The video below shows the avalanche debris field at the east well and tank site.
The video was recorded on June 27, 2023.
